Shaheed Monsur Ali Medical College was established in 1994-95 as the Ummah Medical College in Mirpur, Dhaka. Later, it was named after the third prime minister of Bangladesh, Shaheed M. Monsur Ali. It was relocated to its current site in 1998. It was again renamed the Maulana Bhasani Medical College in 2002 under the Moulana Bhasani Trust. Later, on April 3, 2010, the college was renamed to its current name, Shaheed Monsur Ali Medical College. The campus area of Shaheed Monsur Ali Medical College in Uttara Model Town covers 3 acres of land.
